Lady Admirals to Play in State Championship!
The Lady Admiral’s soccer team began the final leg of their run for a state championship earlier this month. After finishing second in the district to Petal High School, the team faced off against rival Biloxi High School, and for the first time in team history - BEAT them on their home turf, 5-0. The most anticipated showdown of the year was then looming. Number One ranked and undefeated Oak Grove would soon be coming to town. Two goals and two over-times later and two seasons ended at the hands of Oak Grove were avenged. For the second time in team history, the Lady Admirals were advancing to the South State Championship game. Brandon was hostile and pumped up, but ultimately proved wanting, as the Lady Admirals sank five consecutive pk’s to become the 2007-2008 South State 5A girls’ champions.
Now with sights set on the powerhouse of Madison Central, the Lady Admirals seek a first-ever soccer state title for Gulfport High. The 20th win of the season could bookend a memorable run for the team, led by eight seniors who helped to legitimize the program state-wide.
